vines to cover and survive - Dawnee - 06-21-2006

We live in upper peninsula of Mi on Eastern side. We have nothing but beach sand as we are on the shore of Lake Huron: we have wooden arbors and I need to know what type/kind of vine will grow in high acid soil (as the cedar tree roots invade the filled garden beds) and will survive the very cold winters. Trumpet Vine? This vine has beautiful flowers. I have two. One I have been trying to kill with no success (interfering with my climbing rose). The other is on my back fence and is so lovely. It does like mild acid. 6.1-6.5 You could lower the acid levels of your soil around the area of planting.
