  How to Attract Wildlife!
Posted by: Flowerlinda - 03-07-2010, 08:31 PM - Forum: Attracting wildlife - No Replies

I have a large cottage garden in my back yard. We feed the birds all the time. I also have a pond that draws animals. Put a bird bath in your garden. Plant perennials with seed pods such as cone flower, butterfly weed, and shrubs with berries, etc. Certain annuals wildlife love ,too. Notice what they eat and keep planting those flowers.

I need a plant ID please.

In the Easy Weekend Gardener, volume 3, by Garden Gate Magazine there is a rosy colored foliage plant on page 34. It is on the same page as the balloon flower. Does anyone know the name of this plant? I must have it if is hardy to zone 8. A couple of gardeners think it is a sedum but the stem looks too large for a sedum, and I think I see a thorn. Also do any of you grow the Hebe that is on page 23? Thanks for any info any of you may contribute. Sharon, Broxton, Ga

  Paths to wander
Posted by: SWMOgardens - 02-24-2010, 02:24 PM - Forum: Design - Replies (3)

I use a variety of diferent types of paths in my garden. This one is easy, I just use shredded pine bark mulch for a very natural look.

  What's this plant?
Posted by: sparker - 02-21-2010, 05:03 PM - Forum: Weeds - Replies (3)

This plant came up in my yard last year. I can't find anyone who can tell me what it is. It has a rather attractive flower and interesting seed pods. Unfortunately, it gave off a very unpleasant odor.
Can anyone help? Thanks.

  Foundation Bed Size

You have a great looking home. I would take out all the front lawn and build my bed all the way to the curb. To me, that would fit your home real well.

  Matching colors
Posted by: SWMOgardens - 02-10-2010, 01:10 PM - Forum: Design - Replies (4)

When I combine plants, containers, and flowers in a setting, I try to match one color on each item. Here the green of the pot, the blue of the spruce, and the edge of the hosta all match for a very pleasing combination.
